Equus Live Down but Not Out

Organisers of Equus Live today announced the event will not go ahead in 2014 however they hope it will be on the Equestrian agenda for 2015.

Attracting almost 10,000 people in 2013 the two day event promoted and showcased all breeds and disciplines of equestrianism from thoroughbred to sport horse to ponies all under one roof.  Taking place in the Event Centre in Punchestown an indoor arena played host to a range of demonstration and master classes from some of Ireland and England’s leading riders, spectacular displays and competitions while a shopping village housed over 120 stands.

Explaining the decision Amber Byrne said “The inaugural Equus Live was a huge success. To have footfall of nearly 10,000 people in year one is fantastic and the feedback has been phenomenal.  We had some great sponsors and support from industry bodies however the main funding came from the Leader Partnership. This grant is no longer available and we have been unable to source a replacement.  Without a certain level of core funding we are just not in a position to move forward this year.

Having said that, it is clear there is an appetite for Equus Live. We believe it has the potential to grow into an International event and equestrian show case. We are working on finding funding for 2015. Punchestown have been especially supportive and there are lots of individuals and industry bodies who want to see this event continue. While time is against us for this year we hope to find a solution over the next couple of month for 2015”.

Alltech Brings Innovative UK Company “Horses Inside Out” to Equus Live

Equestrians can learn how to optimise their horse’s performance through nutrition and understanding the digestive and musculo-skeletal system

[DUNBOYNE, Ireland] – What happens when leading experts in equine digestive health and a noted educational service, with a focus on horse anatomy, join forces to spread the message about horse care? A whole lot of learning! Alltech, global animal health and nutrition company and title sponsor of the Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games™ 2014 in Normandy, has partnered with innovative UK company “Horses Inside Out” to tour to various events and trade shows around Europe. Alltech and “Horses Inside Out” will hold live demonstrations on the first day of Equus Live, a two-day equine extravaganza to be held at the Event Centre at Punchestown Racecourse, Co. Kildare, from Nov. 2-3.

“Horses Inside Out” features founder Gillian Higgins’ unique painted horse technique. By painting the digestive organs and musculo-skeletal system onto the coat of a willing horse, Higgins shows how the muscles, bones and digestive system work together and how performance can be enhanced through understanding how they function. For those with little or no anatomical knowledge, Alltech and “Horses Inside Out” will run a series of demonstrations, including tips on schooling, feeding and management, on Saturday, Nov. 2. For the more serious research student or competition rider, a series of “Ask the Expert” sessions will be held at the Alltech/Gain Horse Feeds stand near the main entrance of Equus Live. Attendees can engage directly with Alltech experts and the “Horses Inside Out” team, to ask further questions on how to optimise their horse’s performance and welfare through good nutrition and training practices.

“We are honoured to welcome Gillian Higgins and “Horses Inside Out” to Equus Live and would like to thank Alltech for making it happen. She will host a number of fascinating clinics on Saturday and will showcase her techniques through a series of sessions in the Gain Alltech Arena,” said Amber Byrne of Equus Live. “For the more serious equestrian, it is wonderful insight into the interaction of the horse’s digestive organs and the musculo-skeletal system. For the rest of us, it will be a really fun explanation of how the horse works. I’m certainly looking forward to it. It will be like having the Discovery Channel live at Equus.”
